Why does there seem to be so much apathy concerning the Fair Tax?

The Fair Tax can only be brought about by means of a revolution, meaning that there are thousands of tax lawyers, tax lobbyists, IRS employees, and tax preparers who do not want H.R. 25 passed, because they might lose their jobs, so Washington D.C. politicians don’t want to risk losing votes by passing legislation to eliminate the income tax and institute a much fairer national consumption tax, which would benefit America’s citizens immensely. The only way for YOU to cause the Congress to take action on your behalf, instead of acting on the behalf of special interest groups, is for YOU to write your mayor, city councilperson, state senator or representative, governor, US Senator or Representative, and tell them that their support of YOU, through their support of the Fair Tax Act, is a condition of their continued employment. Let them know that the only way they will get your vote is for them to prove that they are working to repeal the 16th Amendment and pass the Fair Tax Act.
I can tell, from the responses so far that none of the answerers has a clue as to what the Fair Tax is. They have obviously not read about it. Every answer is completely wrong. It does not matter who you are, the Fair Tax is to your advantage. Everybody wins with the Fair Tax.
My mistake. Captain Archer understands the opposition to the Fair Tax.

The government doesn’t like the idea because it shifts power back to the people, therefore they poo poo the idea and the media follows.
It has to be low enough that the people want it. I think I heard 10% but that is too high. 1% would be better.
I’ve looked at the Fair Tax proposal. Sounds nice in theory, but there are lots of problems.
Personally, I’m OK with an income tax. It just really needs to be simplified big time, and taxes lowered.
It’s not apathy. I am strongly against that nonsense.
The progressive income tax is fairly balanced already by the regressive nature of sales and property taxes – which fall heaviest on the incomes of the middle class, who spend the largest proportion of their income on housing and goods.
Your ‘fair tax’ is just a big break for the wealthy.
A flat tax wouldn’t be a progressive tax. It would further shift the burden onto the poor and middle-classes. Rich people will ALWAYS find a loophole.
I would rather enact real tax reform that SHRINKS the power of the government instead of effectively putting every single American on welfare. Thanks but no thanks. I used to support the Fair Tax, until I really studied it. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s curing a broken arm by chopping it off at the shoulder and then breaking the other one. This “cure” is worse than the disease.
When looking at any piece of legislation the foremost question in your mind should be, “How could this law possibly be abused?” Apply that to the Fair Tax, and if your brain doesn’t shrivel up and leap out of your ears in horror than you don’t give our government enough credit.
Their is nothing FAIR about the Fair Tax!
If a family of 4 earns $4000 a month after taxes. Has a Mtg payment of $1200 a month. 2 car payments of $900 a month , Groceries of $650 a month. Utilities of $450 a month. Medical and Dental Expense of $100. THIS PROJECTS OUT TO SPENDING 82.5% OF YOUR PAY.
Now change that income to $20,000 a month. Do you see how the wealthy will pay a lower percentage of their total income in taxes.
Shows the success of the liberal schools dumbing down education ! To most of them asking them about the Fair Tax , is like asking them to write a thesis on the Physics of Celestial Mechanics…. I see no problem with everyone being taxed at a same rate tax of 10% on their income and their purchases !
